Same here. I think understanding what poison sugar is, and what its harmful effects are, would change a lot.
Jiva wrote:For 'party' drugs like cocaine, MDMA and the whole range of designer drugs, I personally don't see how any usage apart from hedonism is possible, but I'm sure there are people out there who have had positive occult experiences while using them. But, as Nefastos said, especially the harder drugs can destabilise people quite easily, if only temporarily; anything that affects the serotonin level in someone's brain is going to take at least a few days to resolve itself.
Even I don't see so called party drugs in "good light". One MDMA- session was lifechanging for me. Year of therapy, but I took it as a therapy and not just for partying. It worked that time, but I have no interest of using the stuff. It did it's magic and to use it more would make no sense.

I've personally never used drugs.
I'm told to my wife that I will try cannabis when I'm 75 years old...
before that, I'm going to stay only in alcohol, and nicotine. - which I try to use fairly low, in my present life.

Really:
I do not want to use drugs, even if they would make me feel funny, or spiritual.
Even though my upper comment, about cannabis use contained humor, I am not mentally ready to try it out until retirement age.

/edit:
Oh... and I agree the point what comes in use of sugar.
(I do not use add sugar, and I do not even add salt to my food)

Does anybody know any good literature about drug correspondences to deities or something else? Nefastos mentioned Shiva-cannabis connection which is possible for me to feel easily when listening to/or chanting om namah shivaya mantra and that made me interested. I don't want to start drug-usage but I'd be interested in exploring possible similarities in effects & feelings that arise from drugs people have used and those they have gained from meditations.

There must be a list of at least Hindu deities' correspondences in their old sources (upanishads or puranas), but I haven't come across with such. Since many of them are actually online, some ingenious googling with a little time put into that might help.

Can't remember books handling exactly this topic, but for a good start to investigation, I recommend these links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sacred ... _the_Cross
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_McKenna

Also in Svoboda's Aghori- books are mentioned some connections between deities and substances.

In Crowley's "777" Column XLIII there is a correspondences of Sephiroth to Vegetable Drugs. When following the Crowley's system, this way one can atribute the said drugs to any god on wishes:

Column XLIII: Vegetable Drugs

i. Elixir Vitae — the attribution to Kether is due to its omniform
virtue.

2. Cocaine pertains to Chokmah by its direct action on the deepest
nervous centres.

3. Soma is said to give understanding and was sacred to the highest
form of the Moon. Belladonna is here because of its virtue to dilate the
pupil, thus producing a Black Sea; but this attribution seems a little
fantastic.

4. Opium — its virtue is to relieve pain and to confer philosophic
calm.

5. Nux Vomica, Nettle, and Cocaine are given here for their power
of excitation in one way or another. The attribution of the last named is
doubtful as its apparent stimulating function is really due to its function
as a local anaesthetic. Atropine is given here on account of its power to
balance the influence of Morphia.

6. These drugs are all direct cardiac stimulants. Alcohol in
particular pertains to Bacchus. Further, it is an omniform menstruum
for the Astral Light.

7-8. Cannabis Indica and Anhalonium Lewinii appear to act on both
these Sephiroth. Their action is very similar. They produce in one
mood voluptuous visions which pertain to Venus, and in another confer
the power of self-analysis, which is Mercurial.

9. This attribution refers to its alleged aphrodisiac action.

10. Corn is the typical stimulant of the Nephesch as such.
One day of Brahma has 14 Indras; his life has 54 000 Indras. One day of Vishnu is the lifetime of Brahma. The lifetime of Vishnu is one day of Shiva.

Hey, great! Those correspondences seem like they could be very easily changed to some healthier & easier-to-get drugs with little effort & divination.

Caffeine might be good instead of cocaine.

I prefer this point of view.
