In the times of the Great Lent and Easter I always listen to the Matthew Passion. Makes me cry like a little girl. This video from the Black Church also includes captions, and has a nice tempo (in some performances I find the opening piece a bit slow to my taste).
I really miss a good purifying cry. Unfortunately my emotional structure is in this sense quite numbed because of meds. I can't cry.

I feel you. That is most familiar state to me too, and even now, when my energies have somewhat shifted from the Pit of utter despair, the "blessing of tears" (like the Orthodox Christians say) is very rare. But that is not dead which can eternally lie – the sacred vital emotion towards the things strangely divine – and when the stars are once again right, even the death of feelings may die.

It's funny, when I was young I laughed at people for crying; now I'm a big crybaby and also far more capable of laughing at myself. This for you other crybabies:

Made me cry at the end of The Mist, and made me cry now. Those vocals send the most sublime waves down my spine. Thanks for the reminder that this exists.
I find this track from Warren Ellis and Nick Cave off The Road soundtrack to be so beautiful. My addition to the "for crybabies" thread.

Same here. It was that "real men don't cry" -attitude and titanic hardness that made me laugh at men who cry, but after the awakening of buddhi in mid-twenties I cried regurlarly now and then, and especially in the brink of psychosis I was a combination of aggression and cry-baby.
Continuing with the cry baby theme then:

I guess apocalyptic movies need some pretty music sometimes.
The Road is one of the darkest I've seen. There's some pretty music in
Children Of Men, by John Tavener, but I've never listened to it separate from the film.
The Host Of Seraphim may be the most beautiful song in the world, but my favorite record from Dead Can Dance is
Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun.

This and The Voice of Steel is by far their best records.

My turn!
For crybabies: Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah (Live in London).

The performance itself is a big part of why this is so powerful. The song has become such a "standard", that one might easily not listen to the lyrics always so carefully. But they are gold.
"But it's not a cry that you hear tonight
It's not some pilgrim who claims to have seen the light
It's a cold and it's a very broken Hallelujah"
"I remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove she was moving too
And every single breath we drew was Hallelujah"

Before watching this I wasn't familiar with anything from Accept other than Balls to the Wall

I really like Dead Can Dance, but I'm not overly familiar with this particular album. Time to revisit!

I had the absolute pleasure and good fortune to see him live twice before he passed away, and they're both some of my absolute favourite memories. I love Hallelujah too, and even though it's been covered to death I will always love it. I'm a big fan of the Jeff Buckley version, too. My favourite verse has to be:
"You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
And if I did well really what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah"

Today I've been listening to Fairuz: Good Friday- Eastern Sacred Songs on repeat. Her voice just reaches in and brings light to every part of me.
