Has anyone here ever read "The Book of New Sun" by Gene Wolfe?

That's on my list. I started it once and quit, when I was past halfway the first book. This is because it was too rich for me a the time and it was straining to spend time awake, in these magical worlds, that I go to when I sleep. That's where I think it comes from. Intoxicating stuff. Recently I read two of Jack Vance's Dying Earth books and M. John Harrison's Pastel City. These are recommendations, if you like this genre. Also perhaps China Mieville's Perdido Street Station.
