Since I heard of him & his band recently I've been listening to Jon Nodtveidt & his band Dissection it's really good.

This is a nice suggestion, and accompanied my work today. The more classical side of music has always been a little difficult to me, so I'm happy to find something that touches me in this. I found Omoksha's recent suggestion of Alexander Scriabin in another thread quite absorbing as well, and musically quite fascinating. Throughout the last weeks I have been trying to explore what is possible with music via the more progessive sides of rock and metal music. I am a huge fan of Pink Floyd, especially the "Animals" and "Shine on you crazy Diamond" albums. Among my more recent findings I could mention the Bands Subrosa (especially this) and The Ocean with their latest two albums.

To all the little vampires out there, I'd recommend this orchestral performance of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Composed by the magnificent Wojciech Kilar (who composed music for the Ninth Gate as well).

Slightly faster than the film soundtrack, but a captivating watch.

I don't have much energy for loud music these days, beyond what I've been working on myself. I feel like almost all my listening has become either ambient or classical over the last 5 months or so.

Do any of you Finns like Rautavaara? I have become completely enamored with his works, especially symphonies 7 and 8 which I've been playing quite repeatedly. They bring me a lot of peace.

I tried to get familiar with his work after hearing some interesting excerpts and saw a video of him talking how he found himself wrestling with angels. Unfortunately his discography became overwhelming and I couldn't find my way in. Perhaps I'll try those symphonies you recommended.

Lately I've been listening to feminine voices of the pop culture. Some time ago it was Enya and then Kate Bush (especially her album 'The Dreaming'), occasionally this record. I think I'm falling for nostalgia again for these records bring back elements from early memories in an indirect way. Such longing for the past isn't longing for the actual moments, but for a detail, an aesthetic or mood. It's like longing for the safety of the uterus, under the authority of the Mother, towards the mysteries of death and the moon. I've been listening to very "smooth" music in this decade mostly, like deep techno, dub techno & deep ambient (of course industrial techno too, which isn't "smooth" exactly), with more abrasive sounds being maybe ten percent of all music listened. I'm trying to get back into "harder" music, that I was madly in love wit in the 00's. Extreme psychedelia, chaotic free-impro, power electronics and harsh noise, for example. These have been a drunk delight, whereas last decade I listened to difficult music sober, for hours on end. I'm a total freak and listening to too much techno, the freakness has been sort of lost, or betrayed. I've regressed to a softcore music freak. This is a symptom of a more general regression, like an illness, that's very slowly healing. My brain craves Merzbow once again.

Here's a couple of favorites, that that have been sadly neglected, like a pet . These are cathartic records a little difficult to listen entirely. I promise it's rewarding.

I did listen to Merzbow, after my last post, sober and start to finish. I picked Medamaya from 1998, which is of the "Last of Analog Sessions" triple. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o_-2ZZWd80 It's on the harsher side of his albums. Some are more concrete and drony. Masami is known, even to people, who don't like noise, so it might be a tad more accessible, than some others. That's just one record among 300+. This is what he's been doing since 1979.

I myself don't listen to noise or harsh noise that much, but I enjoy doing it with add of ambient, more or less because of impulsive interest to see how computer and audio might react with each other. Mostly in the end it has become a delight mess of ear-raping experience beyond dysphoria.
I must also note that process of exploring sounds and atmosphere and experimentating is just so interesting.

After a months of pause from jazz, I have started to listen once again good old John Coltrane's music.
