OF MORTIFICATION

(c) fra Nagahel 2006

...in modern times material and carnal life is overvalued, and in the snares of this distorted worship of so called life, the naturalness and beauty of death is far too easily forgotten. Besides looking at the fact that emphasizing only one singular aspect of life is absolutely false from the view point of oneness and universality, the far reaching effects of this unilateral falsity do not have an effect only in the sphere of the people carrying it out in reality, but it also conditions very profoundly the whole collective world. Usually it temporally even conditions its surroundings even more, when emotionally and intellectually more subtle, innocent individuals have to suffer from the wrong doings of their more ignorant, short-sighted brothers and sisters. The distortedness of modern times is extremely heavy a burden to carry for individuals endowed with a subtler sense of life, while being more advanced in the process of individuation, they reluctantly have to carry the burden of their more child-like contemporaries. The problems of any time are the problems of individuals belonging to that time & vice versa, and this axiom is always more truer the more individuated consciousness we are currently talking about.

In many ways the rise of carnal and material polarity has been unavoidable, when considering the spiritually perverted and unilateral tradition most perfectly incarnated by exoteric Christianity, that has had far reaching effects for the collective consciousness of occidental civilizations in the last 2000 years. Despite of this, a well-developed individual should be able to see beyond this kind of relatively short term swaying of different polarities. In the Pantheons of pagan times and in every perennial religion that has upheld and respected natural cyclical laws of the whole of nature and gods - foundational archetypes - balance has always lived and affected, at least in principle, in an eminently more natural way than in the unilateral and linearly stagnant views adopted by exoteric Christianity.

We of the Star of Azazel experience that the polarities should work both in individuals, and also in the world in a far more balanced way than what is the current situation. It is of course a necessity that the forces of light and darkness are both in action in individuals and in collectives for the world to continue to live and evolve. Yet, only in the service of wholeness and universality this kind of an apparent battle can work as a cyclical evolving force in the consciousness of mankind and nature, where activity and passivity, life and death, and all the other apparent opposites of The Only Life have their own sacred and divine function.

When working in the mineral, vegetal and animal kingdoms, Nature does this unconsciously via instincts and passions, and does not have any more freedom than it has responsibility, while always working in absolutely righteous and justified way. The consciousness of man who is capable for self reflection and beyond is in a very different position, and we have been called upon to take part in the Great Work of Nature consciously. Many are called upon, but only few are chosen. Equivalent to the portion that one despises and hates ones own conditioning bonds and chains, in the quantity one experiences true individual will that has evolved millions of years in the furnace of nature, in that same analogous way one is directly responsible to participate into the Great Work. There is no other way to take possession of ones being, and in this work it is of the fundamental importance to mortify the sickness of the mundane and profane world in ones own being.

Unilateral worship of material and carnal life leads unavoidably to a fear of death. By connecting ones consciousness only to another polarity, the individual bears no chance than to lenghten ones life with all means available - that is, the individual fails to see ones far more profound possibilities. If the particular human being is still in the state of natural innocence the problem isn't that great, since all naturalness always has to realize the essential whole (and via that also the naturalness of death), no matter what the "side chosen" is.

If this would be the state of things, and the balance of wholeness would rule both in individuals and in societies there would be no problem. A man equipped with reasonable amount of intelligence and sensitivity has no need to look very long and far to the sewers of modern world to realize, that what is being practised is everything other than naturalness: death - and the powers that cyclically dissolute the incarnated consciousness, have been violently pushed into the subconscious of individuals and the society, and have been changed into taboos; in many fields medicine has been harnessed in to the work of "materialistic necromancy", in which practically dead human corpses are being artificially held alive with any means possible, while in the same time the manifestations of death are in every way hidden from the every day life of humans; natural death rate and mortality have been lowered while the birth rate of the whole of humanity is far greater than in any other known time; modern man is expected (and also both consciously and sub-consciously encouraged) to enjoy ones petty personal and carnal existence as much as possible etc. ad nauseam.

If death, its manifestations and things connected to it, are violently hidden and artificially thrown away from consciousness, they will still stay active in sub-consciousness, only this way they give birth to distorted and sickly manifestations and experiences of the pure essence. This can be seen i.e., in the morbid interest of the modern mass man towards accidents and destructions in the collective scale. The great popularity celebrated by the violence and horror entertainment industry is also one good example of the fact that things currently in the consideration of the collective sub-consciousness flow also into the surface. Anything can of course work not just as a glittery entertainment, but it too often seems to be so that profound and serious things, when taken only as a past time entertainment is a very real sign of the un-ability to deal things seriously and with devotion - quality that the internalisation and the understanding of the mysteries of death most certainly require...
